Away to Melbourne…
An unfamiliar city brings with it a lot of excitement, the zeal to explore and learn new things, and hope for a fresh start. There’s a lot of enthusiasm, a little nervousness, but altogether, a fun experience welcoming you to a new place. Melbourne is no exception. If you have never been to Melbourne before, or haven’t had much time to explore the city on rare and short trips, read below. It will help you find a foothold in Melbourne.
Location: Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, is Australia’s second most populous city. Its metropolitan area, or the Melbourne City Centre or Central Business District (CBD), lies at the Yarra River estuary, located on the northern tip of the Port Phillip bay. The hinterland expands along the eastern and western shores of Port Phillip, while the city extends down south.

Climate: The cold ocean to the south and the hot inland areas ensure Melbourne experiences extreme temperature differences, most prominently during spring and summer. From thunderstorms and gale to heavy rains causing large temperature drops, which passes quickly to reveal sunny skies, Melbourne’s weather is best described as unpredictable, and popularly known as experiencing “four seasons in one day”. Although areas around Port Phillip continue to experience warmth in autumn and spring, the city itself is colder than most Australian states in winter. Summers can be extremely hot in contrast.
Transport: The public transport system offers buses, trams and taxis, including a metro rail system which covers 200 suburban stops to and from the City Loop in Hoddle Grid. Melbourne is well-connected with its regional cities, with rail services also running to Sydney and Adelaide in the neighbouring states.
The City: Hoddle Grid, and the adjoining Docklands and Southbank, are your destinations for commerce. Royal Arcade and Block Place is where history meets the modern city. Plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes line these areas, making it the city’s entertainment hub.
High Country, Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, Great Ocean Road, Grampians, and Goldfields will probably be your places for adventure and holiday fun once you are settled and ready to explore more of Melbourne. Of all the things that Melbourne offers, boredom isn’t one of them. You will definitely enjoy a fun-filled time in Melbourne!
